After completing their 12th standard education, aspiring law students have two different options in terms of degrees. The two different law degrees at the undergraduate level are:

  • Three-Year LLB or LLB (Hons) Program
  • Five-Year Integrated Law Program (BA/BBA + LLB)

Three-Year LLB Program

Candidates looking to study law specifically can opt for the three-year LLB course. However, this program can be done only after you have completed your undergraduate course in any field. The LLB Course focuses solely on the study of law.

Students who wish to pursue the LLB program have to choose between an LLB and LLB(Hons) degree. Both these courses are similar in terms of duration, however, LLB provides students with a more generalized knowledge of the law as compared to LLB(Hons.) which provides students with an in-depth knowledge of law subjects.

Usually, the time required to pursue a UG degree followed by an LLB is 3+3: 6 years.

Five-Year Integrated Law Program

Typically, the 5-year integrated law program combines law education with various other subjects or fields. All highly sought-after law colleges in India, including all 25 NLUs, offer this program. This is an alternative for students who are sure of their career preferences right after completing school. Below are some of the different categories of law degrees offered within the 5-year LLB program.
