Located in Shamirpet, Hyderabad, Telangana, NALSAR (National Academy of Legal Studies and Research) is a public law institution, and an NLU (National Law University) is highly regarded as one of the finest law institutions in the nation.
NALSAR is among the initial academies to offer a 5-year integrated UG (undergraduate) Law degree, PG (postgraduate) law degree, and doctorate law degree. NALSAR is most prominently known for its fiercely cutthroat admissions and has a very low acceptance rate. Among the pool of candidates, the university has an intake of just a little over 130 pupils for its UG law program.
The law institution is scattered across 55 acres (22 hectares), split into five precincts. The administrative block is connected to the academic block. On the first is the academic block where you’ll find the lecture rooms, boardrooms, information center, cyber center, a moot courtroom, and investigation centers. The residential area includes five different hostels for males and females each. The whole campus is connected to wifi. The stadium consists of the fourth while the law institution's mess hall lays out the fifth.
As per the NIRF (National Institute Ranking Framework), NALSAR was ranked third in 2023 and 2024.
NALSAR is extending its academic space and establishing a new campus due to the increasing demand for legal schooling.
The prominent law university is preparing to expand its base in the city, filling out its current one at Justice City in Shamirpet.
The planned campus is located at Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University (PSTU) in Nampally. Prof. Srikrishna Deva Rao, Vice Chancellor of NALSAR, accompanied by other university administrators, visited the site, which has moved to its new campus in Bachupally. Throughout the visit, the group was revealed the available area on the 2nd floor of PSTU’s organizational building.
The new campus of NALSAR is anticipated to be set up in the academic year 2025-26 and seeks to orient a three-year LLB degree program with BCI (Bar Council of India) authorization for sixty seats. For the new non-residential program, the admission process will be done either through an in-house national-level entrance exam or through CLAT (Common Law Admission Test).
Furthermore, the NALSAR management body intends to resettle its Centre for Distance and Online Education to the forthcoming city campus. This action strives to reach a wider audience seeking to pursue legal education. Moreover, the center will also provide numerous new law degree and diploma programs. The new campus will also set up training sessions for lawyers as stated by Prof. Rao.
UG Degree
NALSAR delivers a 5-year integrated BA- LLB (Hons.) program and integrated program of management (BBA+MBA). Admission to the UG program is done through CLAT.
PG Degree
NALSAR delivers a one-year PG LLM program. Only about fifty candidates are granted admission based on CLAT. The law university offers about ten areas of specialization and the program also includes a dissertation. In addition to this, a two-year program consisting of four semesters of self-financed master’s degree in business laws and administration (MBLA) is also delivered by the institution aside from a one-year M.Phil (Master of Philosophy) which is available to students having LLM degree and a Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy). A two-year MBA program is also offered by the university.
