The Common Law Admission Test, referred to as CLAT, is a centralized national-level exam conducted by the consortium of NLUs (National Law Universities). 

The CLAT exam is one of the most popular legal exams for admission to legal courses at different National Law Universities. Every year, over forty thousand undergraduate applicants appear for this exam, resulting in a continuous increase in competition with each passing year making it even more difficult to crack the exam.

The CLAT exam is held only once a year to provide admission to qualified candidates to the LL.B. & LL.M. program offered by the 26 participating NLUs and only a handful of candidates are selected for admission to different law institutions.

A 50-day revision demands a lot of hard work and a well-organized study schedule. As the exam date is nearing, the remaining 50 days are the most important days of your life to boost your potential and achieve success.


To help you understand better what a 50-day revision looks like, let’s take a good look at the step-by-step CLAT 50-day revision tips:

A. Day 1-5: Be Thorough with the CLAT Exam Pattern

The first important step is to spend the first day understanding the CLAT exam pattern as it is vital for your success. Enrol for a CLAT Crash Course to stay on top of the syllabus. The CLAT exam comprises:

  • English Section: Reading extensively, regularly, and comprehending fast should be the goal for the last 50 days.
  • General Knowledge/Current Affairs: Latest events,  important news on both national and international events of the last 6 months is a necessary touch point and other important historical information.
  • Logical Reasoning: Students are expected to be equipped with critical thinking and analytical abilities which is a must for pursuing law.
  • Legal Reasoning: Utilizing the legal principles in real situations.
  • Quantitative Techniques: Basic calculation, data interpretation, and algebra.

B. Day 6-15: Make a New Daily Study Routine

It's time to ditch your old study schedule and make a new one now that you’re in your revision phase. If you have just started your revision phase, it should look something like this:

  • Prioritize foundational concepts in each section. Allocate at least 3 hours per section regularly, highlighting areas like legal aptitude and principles.
  • Change to practicing questions and take on quizzes. Attempt one mock test each week to mimic real exam situations.
  • Examine your mocks, work on your strengths and weaknesses, and increase the number of taking mocks to 2-3 mock tests each week.

Also, make sure that you give time for breaks to avoid burnout.

C. Day 16-25: Take Mocks Regularly

Mock tests assess your level of preparedness. Hence, it is important to take mock tests and blend them into your study schedule. 

  • Complete at least two or three mocks each week as the exam date approaches.
  • Take mock tests in an exam-like setting to build stamina, and accuracy, and lessen exam stress on the day of the examination.
  • Try to take a CLAT Test Series and maintain a progress report on it. 

After each mock test, make sure to take your time to analyze your performance. Check your mistakes and work on them accordingly.

D. Day 26-35: Know Your Current Affairs/General Knowledge

  • Each weekend, ensure that you maintain a journal and outline all the important events you’ve gone through to strengthen retention.

E. Day 36-45: Prioritize Critical Concepts

As the day of the exam comes nearer, focus your revision on these important areas:

  • Legal Reasoning: Work on specifying legal principles and using them to hypothetical events. Go through CLAT's previous years’ question papers to understand the types of cases demonstrated.
  • Quantitative Techniques: Concentrate on crucial areas like data interpretation and percentages. Utilize flashcards for formulas and put them in application in different contexts.
  • Logical Reasoning: Build up your reasoning abilities by deciphering logical reasoning questions and puzzles daily over the 50-day time.

F. Days 46-50: Build Up Your Confidence          

In the last few remaining days, make sure to go through your notes and flashcards.

  • To build your confidence try attempting the questions/passages that you found difficult in the beginning.
  • Maintain calmness and be positive. Believe that you will do well.

On the very last day,  refrain from studying any new topics. Your mental well-being should be in a good state. So it is advisable to do only light reading, relax your mind, and go to bed early.
